2024 Mercedes GLC Coupe : Everything We Know About the Next-Generation Luxury Crossover

Bismillah January 23, 2023

The Mercedes GLC regular crossover is the company’s most popular model. Last June, Merc unveiled an all-new version that includes many of the same features and upgrades as its C-Class sedan counterpart. It hasn’t forgotten buyers who don’t want to drive a C-Class SUV or a GLC SUV. These photos show the fastback GLC Coupe in its final stages of testing to keep this group happy.

The front-end changes have been revealed by the test team, which has removed some of the disguises. Although the grille and headlight of the old car were separated by body color plastics, the new grille features more angular units as a background instead of horizontal bars.

The Coupe will be the same 113.7-in (2.888 mm), wheelbase as the upright GLC. This means that it gains 0.6-in (15mm) more metal between the wheels than the outgoing Coupe. This gives the Coupe more legroom.

The Coupe version has a steeper fastback tail than the standard GLC SUV. This will reduce headroom and luggage storage. Although the prototype is still disguised at the rear, we expect the lights to be similar to the quarterback version and will extend right across the back.

Engine

The under-hood options will match those of the plain GLC. So don’t expect anything other than four-cylinder engines, even the AMG 63 variant. This will get the same 671-hp 2.0 liter PHEV drivetrain that was recently introduced in the C 63 sedan/wagon, while the less popular GLC 300 model will rely on a 255 hp (258 PS), 2.0-liter mild hybrid motor with the option to 4Matic all-wheel drive.

European buyers will also be able to select from a range of less powerful engines, including a 201 HP (204 PS) inline-four in the GLC 200, and a 194 HP (197 PS diesel) in the GLC 220d. A PHEV has a maximum range of 62 miles (100km).

Driver Assistance Updates

Mercedes claims that the GLC’s updated version will include overhauled versions for some safety and driver-assistance functions. Active Distance Assist has increased its stationary vehicle response maneuvering speed to 60 mph from 37 mph.

Active Steering Assist will have better performance on bendy “country roads”, improved freeway lane centering, and more lane detection features due to the new 360-degree camera tech on the next-gen GLC. Mercedes describes the “Digital Light” as a vehicle with projection functions and customizable “Coming/Leaving home” animations. These are projected on the ground in front of the car using the vehicle’s headlights.

Traffic Sign Assist can now recognize signs on overhead structures and within construction zones. It will also recognize conditional signage such as “slippery when it’s wet” with new warnings that alert drivers in different situations, including when they are about to run a red light or stop sign. Mercedes claims that its parking systems will be more responsive to the surrounding environment and offer better maneuverability at low speeds.

Interior

Mercedes already confirmed some interior details for its new GLC. The new GLC will feature a three-spoke steering column with newly designed control panels for navigation, phone, and entertainment as well as proximity control buttons. An 11.9-inch LCD central display will be featured on the main dashboard. The driver can use the 12.3-inch monitor behind the wheel.

The updated MBUX user-experience infotainment system will be available for the third-gen GLC. It includes updated “Hey Mercedes”, voice assistant commands, and new augmented reality features. These feature project details and addresses onto the infotainment screen’s exterior surround-view video feed.

2024 Mercedes GLC Coupe Revealed

Since the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz GLC model in 2008, over 2.5 million copies have been sold. It quickly rose to prominence in the compact luxury crossover segment and has been the most popular model in Mercedes-Benz’s portfolio. Although the C-Class sedan is the basis for the new model, it will be based on more premium models such as the S-Class.
