The new-generation Mercedes-Benz GLE was introduced in 2020. There are no major changes for 2023. This is why you can order one now in Canada, unlike the 2023 GLC which will be available in the spring. 2024 will see a mid-cycle refresh. What is Mercedes-Benz’s three-row midsize SUV? We will find out next year but for now, here is a glimpse.
This luxury mid-size crossover is in its fifth generation. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, which will be the fifth year of production, will feature the current generation. It’s not surprising that the German manufacturer is working on a facelift. We can see that there will be many changes, but most will be subtle. This is what this brand is known for. While the focus will be on exterior design, we are also about to see interior updates. The engine lineup will likely remain the same.
The overall design will not change, but the SUV will be more attractive. The familiar features of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class include a smooth ride, a luxurious interior, and powerful powertrain options. We don’t anticipate any price increases, but the launch date for 2023 should be in the second half.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Design
Given that this is a mid-cycle update it’s obvious that styling will be the main focus. Visual updates are expected, and the test mule was already spotted out on the roads. The camouflage used by the test mule is very minimal, which indicates subtle changes. This is especially true for areas around the headlights and front fascia. We expect to see the usual mid-cycle updates such as new wheels and color options, etc.
The vehicle’s mechanical aspects should, however, remain the same. The current model’s ride quality is excellent, and the vehicle is extremely comfortable. You can also count on an impressive level of athleticism. This combination is not available in many SUVs today.
Interior
There will be some changes on the inside. This is especially true for more features. The latest reports suggest that we will soon see a new steering column. Although the 12.3-inch screen will likely remain unchanged, the infotainment system will be updated. We also believe this update will bring new colors, new materials, and other novelties.
The overall layout of the cabin will not change. The standard models will keep the two rows of seats. They are very comfortable and spacious, with ample space to accommodate adults. The third row, however, isn’t as spacious. It’s also quite tight, so it would only work for children. This SUV is a class leader in terms of cargo volume with 33.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 74.9 cubic feet of total volume.
Features
This update will bring new features and, naturally, some changes to the model. Although we expect the standard equipment list to grow, we don’t expect any significant changes. The current model is already very good in this regard. The standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch touch screen, a digital gauge cluster, navigation, “Hey Mercedes”, virtual assistant, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, five USB ports Bluetooth, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a sunroof, and ambient lighting.
Some of the features currently available could be made standard. This could include things such as a 1a 3- and 25-speaker Burmester sound system, two additional USB ports, and a pa ower soft-closing door.
Engine
Under the hood, we don’t anticipate any changes. This should not change, so base models will continue to use a 2.0-liter turbo four, which produces around 255 horsepower. This should provide decent driving dynamics and satisfy most drivers. We would still recommend the super-smooth, 3.0-liter inline-6, which produces around 362 horsepower and provides significantly better performance. You can get the same engine in both turbocharger or supercharger versions, which produce a maximum output of 429 horses.
The company’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 produces around 483 horsepower. The GLE can reach 60 in a mere 5.0 seconds with this engine. All engines are available in pairs with a 99-speed automatic transmission.
The base turbo-four gets around 19 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway. This is about average for this segment. The inline-six returns around 21 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. The V8 on the other hand is much more efficient and returns approximately 17 mpg in the metropolis and 22 mpg on the highway.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Release date and price
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is expected to hit the market in the second half of 2023. It will be available at a starting price of around 56.000 USD. There will be no change in the competition, as models such as Lexus RX and BMW X5, Audi Q7, etc.
