Volkswagen took off the wraps of the refreshed T-Cross and injected the smallest of its SUV line-up with new styling cues as well as an updated interior, just four years after its first launch. In the press photos that were released, VW only showed the more sporty R-Line trim, but we’ve seen early models of the T-Cross without camouflage and we’re familiar with the changes to the design of the smaller models, too.
2024 VW T-Cross Review
Exterior
On the front, the wide grille is a wide-width LED bar that replaces the chrome stripe. It also connects to the headlights which feature IQ.Light the LED matrix technology. The new bumper features modern triangular-shaped side openings and a simpler configuration to lower the intake. The body-colored bumpers that are included on the model in the photo are exclusive to the R-Line and the trims that are lower-spec get more plastic cladding, and aluminum trim around the intake, which resembles an aluminum skid plate.
The design is mostly unchanged except for the alloy wheels (16-inch and 17-inch) as well as the trio of brand new colors which include Grape Yellow, Clear Blue Metallic as well as Kings Red Metallic – expanding the color options. The rear highlights are the striking graphic of an X on the taillights, as well as the wide LED bar located in the middle. The lower part of the bumper on the rear has changed with a wider faux intake in the R-Line, but the absence of apparent exhaust pipe.
Interior
Inside, there are noticeable changes because the whole dashboard has been revamped. The cheap and scratchy plastics that were regarded as the weakest part of the previous model have been replaced with soft and, as per VW, “significantly higher-quality” materials. The technological aspects have been upgraded to match the new digital cockpit.
Particularly it is the digital instrument cluster that is now standard, but its dimensions vary between 8 and 10 inches based on the trim levels. The infotainment touchscreen is set higher, measuring 8.2 inches and 9.2 inches, and can benefit from the most recent software. The climate controls have been updated with touch sliders that are available in the option of Air Care Climatronic instead of rotating dials. Not to be left out the SUV’s small size can now be purchased with Travel Assist ADAS.
Engine
VW has been proud of the practical qualities of the T-Cross, including the rear bench that slides as well as the movable compartment for luggage that can be used for 385-450 Lt (13.6-16.1 cubic feet) as well as the drawbar load that is raised from 55kg (121 pounds) to 75kg (165 pounds) to allow you to carry more bikes in a bike carrier.
The VW T-Cross is the most powerful brother to the Polo supermini. It rides on the MQB-A0 same architecture. The powertrain line-up is the same as that of the model that was pre-facelifted, which means that the T-Cross does not come with any electrified options like its competitors.
Its turbocharged 1.0 TSI three-cylinder petrol is offered with 94 horsepower (70 kW/95 PS) or 113 horsepower (85 kW/115 PS) as well as the turbocharged 1.5 TSI four-cylinder makes 148 horsepower (110 150 PS / 115 kW). The power is transferred via the rear axle by the manual 5-speed or 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG automated, which is available on the most powerful version.
