Ford’s mid-size SUV is set to retire soon and be replaced by an electric version. It seems unlikely that this will happen, given that the current generation still has impressive sales figures. According to rumors, the Ford Edge 2024 will also be produced beyond 2024. We will soon see the familiar design with familiar features and specs.
The company also has other plans for Edge China. The company will launch the next generation in this region of the world. It will have a larger wheelbase and an aggressive appearance. This one will also come with a hybrid engine. It will be available for production in the second half of this year.
2024 Ford Edge L Review
The North American version will continue to be in production until it is discontinued, as we have just mentioned. We expect no significant changes considering this will likely be the last year of production. Even though the exterior hasn’t changed much from 2019, the overall design will not change. Despite being the oldest model in its class, the current model looks very appealing.
Interior design is the same. The dashboard was updated in 2021 with a large 12-inch tablet-like infotainment display. The cabin of the Edge is good quality and offers a wide range of available and standard features. The Edge is a mid-sized SUV that can accommodate five people. The space in both rows is generous, and the cargo area has a respectable volume. There may be 39.2 cubic feet of space between the first and second rows, and 73.4 cubic yards total.
The Edge is a well-equipped SUV. We’ve already mentioned it. The next model should not have any major changes. Base models should include standard features such as a 12-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and satellite radio.
You can expect upgrades such as navigation, wireless charging, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, remote start, ambient interior lighting, and an auto-dimming reverse view mirror. There is also a universal garage door opener, a universal power outlet, and a universal household-style 110-volt power outlet.
All models come standard with rearview cameras, automatic emergency brakes, pedestrian detection, and blind-spot monitoring. There should also be some optional features such as adaptive headlights and parking sensors, park assist, and parking sensors.
The 2024 Ford Edge will continue to be built in the same manner. The base models will still be equipped with the 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, which produces around 250 horsepower and is sufficient to satisfy most drivers. The twin-turbo V6 is for those who want something more. It produces around 335 horsepower and provides significantly better driving dynamics.
The base engine has an 8-speed auto transmission and averages around 21 mpg in cities and 28 on the highway. This is excellent for the segment. The V6 on the other hand returns about 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg highway, which is about average for an SUV of this size.
New Design
The SUV’s front features a large grille that integrates a portion of the tinted full-width LED headlights. There are also different bumper intakes depending upon the trim (regular or ST-Line). The profile features a sculpted section on the doors and a fin at the base of the C-pillar bearing the “L”. The LED taillights are connected at the back by a black trim piece, with Edge lettering and mostly horizontal lines.
New Ford Edge L measures 196.9 in (5,000 mm), 77.2 in (1,961mm) wide, and 69.8 inches (1,773mm) high. The new Ford Edge L’s wheelbase measures 116.1 inches (2.950 mm), which makes it 3.9 inches (100 cm) longer than the previous model.
Inside, you will find a 2-+2+3 layout with three rows and a digital dashboard, which is typical for Ford’s Chiese models. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a familiar 27-inch 4K touchscreen cover most of the dashboard. The “floating” central console, which is high up, has lots of storage and a wireless charging pad. It also features a fancy gearshift lever that can be used with the automatic gearbox.
The ST-Line trim is sportier and has red accents and black upholstery. The regular model comes with a duo-tone treatment that includes copper accents. The equipment is very generous, with a head-up display, ambient lighting, and reclining second-row chairs with three different modes. There’s also an automatic tri-zone climate controller, a panoramic sunroof, and up 20 ADAS.
Powertrain
Two powertrain options are available for the Ford Edge L. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which is not electrified, produces 249 horsepower (185 kW/ 252 PS) as well as 378 Nm (278.8 lb-ft) in torque. A self-charging hybrid version with 271 horsepower (202 kW/ 275 PS) combined and 405 Nm (298.7 lb-ft), is also available.
It is also more efficient, with a fuel consumption rate of 6.31 lt/100km (37.3 mpg), and a combined driving distance of 1,188 km (738 mi) without refueling. This was measured using the WLTC cycle. An active 4WD system and an automatic gearbox transmit power to all four wheels.
