Mike Koval, Ram CEO, stated that although Ram wouldn’t be the first to introduce an electric pickup, it would benchmark other trucks and create a better vehicle. Stellantis division declared that its electric pickup truck would be called the 2025 1500REV in a bold and innuendo-laced Super Bowl ad.
2025 Ram 1500 REV Review
Performance
Ram’s numbers have shown that the extra time spent in the oven worked. The 1500 REV will come with two options for batteries when it reaches customers in 2025. The standard 168.0-kWh pack will provide 350 miles of range on a single charge. The longer-range option includes a massive 229.0-kWh battery that can provide 500 miles of range.
The Extended Range F-150 Lightning’s 131.0-kWh battery claims 320 miles of range. We managed 230 miles in our 75-mph highway tests. GMC claims a similar 329-mile range for the Hummer EV’s 212.7 kWh battery. We managed 290 miles in our range testing, but fast charging can quickly cost $100 to fully charge a large battery. The 1500 REV can add 110 miles to the range of any battery, and it will do so in less than 10 minutes. This is even though the battery may be different. The battery’s fast charging at 800-volt DC speeds of up to 350 kW can be achieved by switching the connection between two 400-volt sections. This is likely to follow the same process as GM with the Hummer.
The 1500 REV is capable of all-wheel drive thanks to the dual 335-hp electrical drive modules. One at the front axle and one at its rear. An electronic locking rear differential is available on the rear axle, but it is not available on the front axle. The front axle has an automatic wheel-end disconnection, which allows the front wheels to turn freely, improving efficiency. Ram claims the truck will have 654 horsepower and 620 pounds-feet torque. The 1500 REV will reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds by pressing the accelerator. This is a respectable, but not record-breaking speed.
The 1500 REV can be used for vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-grid, and vehicle-to-home bidirectional charging. The truck’s onboard power will be used to provide additional power for job sites and tailgates. A panel that can handle up to 7.2kW in bed and 3.6kW in frunk is possible.
Ram understands that truck owners want to be able to do things with their trucks. This means that EVs can be switched to a lower cost or even eliminated. Standard range trucks have a 14,000-pound towing capacity and a maximum payload of 2700 pounds. The long-range truck doesn’t have official tow ratings. Because of its excellent ride quality and coil-spring rear axle, the standard Ram 1500 internal-combustion Ram 1500 has been a favorite on our 10Best list. The 1500 REV adds a multi-link independent rear setup and active-leveling air suspension standard with adaptive damping. Five preset ride heights can be achieved with the adjustable air suspension.
Changes
There will be five trim options for the new Ram, including Tradesman/Big Horn/Lone Star and Limited, as well as a Tungsten trim. Tungsten trim features an exclusive two-tone interior, in Indigo/Sea Salt. Metal accents are found throughout the interior. Suede wraps the headliner, A, and B-pillars, as well as the visors. People who are familiar with the standard gasoline-powered 1500 REV interior will immediately recognize it. However, there have been significant changes. Standard is the 12.0-inch screen on the regular truck, but an optional 14.5-inch screen is available. The concept truck’s 10.3-inch dash-mounted passenger screen is also in production.
The infotainment will now include EV-specific pages that can display information such as range impact, power flow, charge levels, and charging schedules. The 1500 REV can also plug and charge, which allows owners to set up payments so that charging occurs automatically when the device is plugged into compatible stations.
Towing and Payload Capacity
Ram claims that the 1500 REV will tow up to 14,000 pounds and have a payload of 2700 lbs. This is for the smaller battery option. Ram REVs equipped with a larger battery are likely to tow less due to the increase in curb weight. The F-150 Lightning currently has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.
Range, Charging, & Battery Life
Every Ram 1500 REV is equipped with all-wheel drive. However, the electric pickup comes with two different sizes of batteries. The smaller 168.0-kWh battery will provide 350 miles of range. Ram expects the 229.0-kWh larger battery to provide at least 500 miles. The truck’s 800-volt architecture will enable DC fast-charging up to 350.0 kWh. During optimal charging, that’s approximately 100 miles of range per 10 minutes.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo
For many years, the gas-powered Ram has provided a luxurious interior that is far superior to its competition. We don’t think that Ram’s shift towards battery dependence will change this. The fully-electric Ram 1500 is free from any engine or other heavy components. It promises clever storage solutions for contractors and cowboys. It features adjustable seating and storage areas that can accommodate objects up to 18 feet in length from the bed to its frunk. Full-size pickups are easy to access and use thanks to the side steps, rear tailgate, and powered frunk.
The concept also shows a larger Ram Box with a multifunctional tailgate. This would most likely be included in the equipment list for the production pickup. The concept’s cab measures 4.0 inches longer that the Ram 1500 crew cab. A set of jump seats, which create a third row, is also included.
Connectivity and Infotainment
Two 14.5-inch touchscreens power the interior entertainment of the Ram 1500 EV. The interior features a 360-degree camera, digital side-view mirrors, and a head-up display. Voice assistance is available from both Apple’s Siri and Android’s Alex. Smart Home Control functions are available in the truck’s infotainment system. This function allows passengers to control lights, thermostats, lights, and other audio systems from their front seats. As standard equipment for the EV truck, we expect the same equipment as the gas-powered Ram, such as wireless phone charging and wireless Android Auto.
2025 Ram 1500 REV Revealed
The production of the 2025 1500REV will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, with deliveries starting in early 2025. Pricing is not yet known, but the REV’s larger batteries than those of its competitors suggest a higher price point. It’s likely to cost significantly more than the gasoline- or diesel-powered Ram 1500.
