Volvo will kick off its electric vehicle launch with a brand-new crossover called the EX30. The smallest EV from Volvo is expected to sit below the C40, XC40, and XC40 recharge. Gothenburg released a teaser and patent images have also surfaced on the internet. What else can we look forward to before the imminent launch? Let’s dive in further.
2024 Volvo EX30 Redesign
Volvo is a master of design. The Swedes, unlike other automakers who push the envelope too much with styling cues and over-the-top design, understand the importance of a simple but excellent balance. This is still true in the case of EX30. The EX30 looks like a smaller EX90 with a front fascia that is flanked by two segmented matrix headlamps. The hood, front fenders, and side profile are all shaped with taste.
The contrasting roof, glasshouse, and rear haunches could be from the XC40. They exude a solid stance. The rear features a distinctive lighting signature. The main taillamps span across the width of its tailgate while secondary clusters flank the upper glass.
Interior
The interior of the new baby EV is similar to that found in other recent offerings from Volvo and Polestar. The dashboard will be dominated by a massive vertically oriented infotainment display, while a smaller digital instrument cluster is located behind the steering wheel. The driver and front passenger are separated by a sliding bin, which has ample storage.
The interior will use recycled materials and wool-blend seats, while a panoramic roof will give the impression of space. The interior smarts feature over-the-air upgrades with 5G connectivity and Nvidia Drive AI. Google apps and services assistance is also included.
It is thought that the EX30 will be based on Geely’s SEA architecture. This architecture also underpins the Smart #1, and Zeekr X – both cars of similar size. It is believed that aluminum will be used in the key components to reduce weight, improving performance and handling.
Tech and Safety Features
Volvo has released a series of teasers that highlight some of the EX30’s best features. The upcoming electric vehicle will feature advanced driver assistance (ADAS) systems, including a door-opening alert system that warns passengers about approaching vehicles, bikes, or pedestrians.
The EX30 is no exception. Volvo has incorporated “Safe Space Technology” as part of the ADAS package. This technology uses a sensor located behind the steering column to track the eye and facial movements of the driver to detect distractions. The intersection auto-braking feature is also designed to avoid collisions if another vehicle suddenly crosses in front of the EX30.
Volvo also prioritized passive measures of safety in the EX30. The SUV is equipped with a strong safety cage and reinforced roof, pillars, and pillars. High-strength metals are also used to protect the battery. A new airbag on the far side of the driver’s seat will help to reduce head and thorax injury in case of a collision.
Engine
Yet to be disclosed are critical metrics for performance and range. It is believed that the battery will be a 400-volt lithium-ion-phosphate to reduce costs, and to allow DC rapid charging of up to 250kW. The standard will be a single rear-driver motor, while a dual-motor system with more power will be available as an option. The Smart #1’s single motor model produces 268 horsepower, while the top-of-the-line dual motor model boasts 422 horsepower. The C40 Recharge is expected to have a range similar to the EX90, which has a massive 111-kWh battery. The 69 kWh batteries in that vehicle are suitable for up to 438km (272 miles).
Exterior and Colors
We have a good idea of how the Volvo EX30’s exterior will look from a few teaser pictures and patent images. The shape of the Volvo EX30 is similar to that of the XC40 but with more modern details, closer to those found on the EX90. For example, the headlights have individual rectangular daytime driving lights. The front is also closed and does not have a grille. In the side view, the roofline is gently tapered and the beltline, like the XC40’s, rises near the C-pillar.
Volvo has experimented with lighting quite a lot at the rear. In addition to the lower taillights, there are also more lights on either side of the rear window. The top and bottom clusters are not as aligned as they should be. However, as with the EX90, the final result might look more convincing once the car has been revealed.
The Volvo EX30’s paint colors will be revealed in greater detail before its release. However, the XC40 palette is relatively conservative and could provide some clues. Black Stone, Thunder Grey, and Fjord Blue could be carried over to the EX30. However, Volvo may surprise us with some brighter shades for a more youthful car.
Driving
Volvo EX30 2024 electric car will have a major impact on the automotive market and electric vehicle industry. The EX30 is a perfect example of Volvo’s commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking design. Volvo’s new small SUV will be revealed on the date set.
Volvo enthusiasts and potential buyers can expect to discover the entire range of features, specifications, and other details that Volvo has meticulously crafted. The EX30 is a revolutionary electric vehicle that redefines the driving experience. It also offers the latest in safety and connectivity features.
2024 Volvo EX30 Release Date & Price
Volvo EX30 will make its global debut on June 7 and be released in the USA shortly after. The USA will also be able to make reservations on June 7. The price of the Volvo EX30 2024 will be more important than any other Volvo model. If the price is too high, customers may opt for the larger XC40, which starts above $50,000. Or they might choose a German competitor like the Audi Q4 e-tron, which will cost about $50k. The new Volvo EX30 electric cross-over will likely start at around $43,000. However, we estimate it to be closer to $40k to avoid overlap with the XC40 recharge. Top trims will easily surpass $50k.
