2024 Toyota Supra Review
The GR Supra has been a symbol of TOYOTA GASO Racing’s passion for driving pleasure since its debut in 2019. It now features the six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission, (iMT) for 2023. This Supra might be the Supra for drivers who enjoy the precision and control that manual shifts offer.
This development is true to the engineering excellence of the GR Supra. It’s not a matter of using pre-made solutions. Engineers created a manual transmission specifically for the GR Supra. It features components that are tuned to the engine’s power and torque characteristics.
Throughout the model range, the GR Supra’s suspension and braking systems were also re-tuned to improve performance. Available on the 3.0 Premium, 3.0 Premium, and Limited Edition A91-MT models. The manual transmission in the GR Supra was specifically designed and tuned to work with the straight-six engine of the coupe.
The engineering team modified the transmission housing, driveshaft, and gear set. They also removed any unnecessary elements like the acoustic pack, which helped reduce weight. The transmission’s heart is a large-diameter clutch featuring reinforced diaphragm springs.
These new components are suitable for high-torque GR Supra engines due to their larger friction area and stronger springs. The new 6-speed manual gearbox features the software-programmed Intelligent Manual Transm (iMT). The parameters for raising the engine are set to maximize engine torque during clutch release and clutch release. On downshifts, the software is adjusted for consistent performance. it is the default but can be disabled in Sport mode if the driver wishes.
The final drive ratio was reduced from 3.15 on the GR Supra auto to 3.46 on the GR Supra MT. This is to avoid sluggish acceleration and a feeling of low acceleration in gear. This result gives you a sports car-like response and gearing. Also, careful consideration is given to how manual gears can be accommodated inside the driver’s cockpit. To reduce the effort to shift gears, the lever ratio has been specially adjusted.
The gear knob’s weight and shape are 200g. However, the quality of the shift has been perfectly defined. The console unit and position of the drive mode selector are both adjusted to create a gap of 1.7 inches between the shift knobs and the control panel.
The Toyota Supra was born in the late 1970s. It has become a global icon with its JDM tuning style, which is loved by many automotive enthusiasts. A controversial subject. The original A40/50 was more a Toyota Celica liftback than anything, while the second-generation major redesign (the A60), was already beginning to forge a distinctive path forward. It featured a distinctive fascia and a trendy (at the time), pop-up. Front lamp. The Celica’s ties to the Supra were cut in 1986 with the arrival of the A70, and the Supra carried on its exuberant sports car adventure.
That’s how we got to the fourth generation A80 in 1993. This was the version that helped make Toyota’s JDM tuning skills famous. The fifth-generation revival of the J29/DB GR Supra, which took place in 2019, is a departure from the past. It’s paired with the BMW Z4 at Graz, Austria.
This caused great outrage among A80 Supra enthusiasts. For everyone else, trying to live a normal life in the JDM-style sports car industry, stopped running wild and began to cry when they realized that all had to be done for the 2023 Nissan Z.
You might feel that updating is necessary. This is especially true if the A91MT trim gives you access to a manual transmission but costs more ($58,845) than $39,990 Z which offers this option at the same MSRP. Some may feel the need to do things their way, or at least on their CGI brushes, like the dreamland of the digital car content creator. Evrim Ozgun is a Turkish virtual automotive designer who decided recently to harness the unlimited potential of CGI to update and tune Euro-JDM designs while also doing all of this simultaneously.
After things as cool as a modified Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 against the modded Dodge Challenger SRT Challenger and the R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R being brought to life for 2024MY or the next-gen 2024 Chevy Chevy Camaro ZL1, we are ready to meet the sleekly lifted face, thoroughly slammed and sculpted by the Toyota GR Supra. Even better, the Euro-Japanese hypothetical coupe is displayed against multiple backdrops (both CGI and real world) and finished in subtle grays or luxurious maroon colors.
2024 Toyota Supra GRMN
The fifth-generation Supra was revealed in January 2019. This marks the return to this highly coveted nameplate after a 17-year absence. The J29 was criticized for fake ventilation and many other things. Without BMW, it would have been impossible.
The GR Supra, based on a sports car platform derived CLAR from the 2 Series Coupe and the 8 Series, is the coupe-style counterpart of the Z4. These engine options, along with the relationship that BMW sourced, caused a lot of boos from loyalists who didn’t consider the GR a Supra.
Opponents might want to take a step back and see the J29 from a different perspective. For a while, sports cars haven’t been very popular. To reduce development costs, Toyota partnered up with BMW. This allowed the Bavarian automaker the Z4 to be redesigned. Early on in the development process, engineers from BMW and Toyota parted ways. These improvements were made independently of each other, which is why the Supra feels so different from Z4.
Magna Steyr is a contract manufacturer of the Supra and Z4. The Supra and Z4 are both manufactured in Austria. They come standard with a B48 four-cylinder turbo and an optional B58 six-cylinder turbo. The crankshaft rating for the 2.0-liter engine is 194 to 255 horsepower, while the 3.0-liter unit can produce up to 382 ponies.
The Supra and Z4 have the B58, which is known for producing slightly higher horsepower and torque than what was advertised. The B58 can be ordered with either an eight-speed manual transmission or a Supra-only manual transmission. It is also the basis for the M-only S58, which is used in the M3/M4.
BMW currently uses the S58 in the aforementioned models as well as the X3M and X4M. Rumors have circulated since 2018 that BMW may sell the engine to Toyota to power its Supra variant. This has been tentatively referred to as the GRMN.
The Gazoo Racing Masters at Nurburgring is expected to debut in spring 2023 with functional ventilation and large rear wings similar to the one in the photo gallery. This will most likely be a limited-run special edition to celebrate the 2024 model year.
Best Car knows that the DCT is a seven-speed DCT. This is strange considering BMW switched to CLAR for the 2 Series Coupe and 3er, 4er, and 4er models. According to the cited publication, 550 ps is expected to arrive shortly. This could be due to the 551-ps engine found in the M4 CSL. This converts to 543 horsepower and the peak torque is 650 Nm (479 pounds-feet). Best Car understands that the GRMN will represent the most extreme version of the Supra and that the J29 will be discontinued sometime around 2025.
Toyota Supra A91 MT Edition
The car is limited to 500 units in the US. It will be available in an exclusive matte white or gray color, along with 19-inch alloy wheels in gray and red bonnet struts. It will have a cognac leather trim on the seats and GR-badged Alcantara-coated shift buttons.
Toyota claims that the manual has been developed specifically for the Supra. It is not a copy from BMW’s dumpster. The Supra platform is identical to the BMW Z4, and both the 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter BMW engines are used in Supras. In some German brands of cars, a manual transmission can be paired with these units, such as the Z4. Toyota claims it modified the transmission housing, driveshaft, and gear set, while also removing redundant parts to save weight. One of these is the acoustic pack.
One of the most significant modifications was the addition of a reinforced diaphragm Spring and a larger friction zone for the clutch. This was specifically designed for high torque applications with the Supra engine. The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine produces 382 and 367 lb. ft. of torque. Turbocharged inline-4 engines are available for both 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft. Toyota also offers an exclusive software, Intelligent Manual Transmission. This transmission prioritizes sporty performance.
For example, an upshift optimizes engine torque during clutch and clutch release. A downshift requires consistent performance. This feature can be disabled by the driver. To provide faster off-the-line acceleration engineers have reduced the final drive ratio (from 3.15 to 3.46) and also designed a shifter in the cab that makes shifting easier.
Some center stacks were also revised to increase shifter clearance. The traction control was also modified to allow extra wheelspin when driving on slippery roads or making sharp turns at an angle. Supras with manual transmissions will have the “Supra” script badge in red, instead of the usual black. This should give the car more road cred.
Toyota stated that all Supras with 3.0-liter engines have revised dampers that improve ride comfort and roll balance. The electric power steering also has been overhauled. The 3.0-liter model also includes an active rear differential.
Toyota engineers plan to install BMW engines into the Supra. The new twin-turbo 3.0 L engine, which produces 500 hp, will be featured in the BMW X3 M and X4 models.
A limited edition GRMN Supra Toyota GR Supra will be produced. It may have a little more power (BMW makes this engine up to 382bhp for countries not subject to EU emission regulations), but it could weigh 100kg less due to lighter wheels, carbon brakes, and carbon seats, as well as sound attenuation that is lower. Toyota’s perfect halo model.
