Since its inception, the SUV version of this well-known nameplate is in regular use. The crossover was first introduced in North America in 2018, and we have already seen a redesign for 2022. We would expect no major changes to the model, and we are not expecting any more for the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2024, which will be the third year of production. The Japanese manufacturer seems to think differently and has prepared some major updates.
Two major updates are expected for next year, according to rumors. One possibility is the introduction of a new trim with unique styling details. There is also the possibility of a new powertrain option that would provide more power and better fuel efficiency. The overall design will remain the same with the familiar features and design that have made this model so popular over the years. The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year.
2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Redesign
We mentioned that the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross could get some updates. Some sources indicate that the next model might have a new trim level similar to the Black Edition, which was introduced this year for the Japanese market. This version has a lot more exclusive details such as a blacked grille and skid plates, side skirts, and mirror caps as well as blacked wheels.
We don’t think that the next Eclipse Cross should feature any more changes than the current trim level. The overall layout of the Eclipse Cross should be the same with the same layout as the driving experience. Although the crossover is comfortable and smooth, it is not the most athletic in its class.
Interior
Interior design is the same. The company offers Black Edition in North America. This trim level includes a few exclusive interior details. These include a black and dark-silver color scheme applied to the dashboard, instrument cluster, door cards, etc.
The interior layout of the rest of the lineup will be the same, with relatively good overall quality but not feeling particularly attractive. The Honda CR-V and its rivals look more upscale in terms of aesthetics and materials selection, but the number of tech features isn’t very impressive. The front seats are comfortable and spacious, with excellent side support. The second row, however, is spacious and comfortable with plenty of legroom. However, taller passengers might have trouble with the second-row headroom due to the sloped roofline. The cargo area is 23.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and 50.1 cubic yards total cargo volume. This is far below the segment standard. The Outlander is slightly larger and offers almost 80 cubic feet of total cargo volume.
Features
This aspect is not likely to change. The majority of the features in the current model should be the same, as it comes with standard equipment like a 7-inch touchscreen, a four-speaker stereo, HD radio, Bluetooth, automatic climate control, and a USB port.
You can choose from a variety of optional features such as an 8-inch touch screen and navigation, a six- or eight-speaker stereo system, satellite radio, and additional USB ports. There are also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic sunroofs, dual-zone automatic climate controls, push-button start, and more.
Engine
The Eclipse Cross’s powertrain is one of its weakest areas. The Eclipse Cross only offers one powertrain option, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 152 horsepower. Although the driving dynamics are not great, it wouldn’t be a problem if this engine was efficient. The engine is not efficient in this area either with 25 mpg city and 28 highway.
The Japanese manufacturer may offer a new powertrain option with a plug-in hybrid setup. The system would be based on a 4-cylinder engine of 2.4 liters, and can also include a few electric motors. The system’s combined output is around 188 horsepower. It also contains a 13.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides approximately 38 miles of all-electric range.
2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Price and Release Date
The 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year. It will cost around 25.000 USD. The hybrid version’s launch date and price have not been announced.
