The Korean carmaker was among the first to develop advanced battery technologies. There are many EVs already in the range, and more are on the way. The 2024 Kia EV9 is one of these EVs, and it is expected to be available sometime in the next 12 months. This is the company’s brand-new electric car. We are about to see a large, three-row SUV that will surpass everything else in the company’s current lineup.
The 2021 concept should heavily influence the design of the 2024 Kia EV9. This is primarily about the exterior design and overall approach. The company will also implement the most recent advances in battery technology. This will allow for super-fast charging, strong performance, and a respectable range. According to recent reports, the 2024 Kia Ev9 will be much cheaper than similar-sized electric SUVs. This should make it a major selling point.
2024 Kia EV9 Redesign
The base design characteristics of the 2024 Kia EV9 include a three-row SUV. The 2021 concept was a futuristic and functional design. We expect that the inspiration for the 2024 Kia EV9 will come from that. The vehicle will be able to ride on the Electric Global Modular Platform, (E-GMP), which already supports the sporty EV6 model.
The previous concept featured an SUV with a similar exterior design to the Telluride. Although the silhouette is similar, the EV9 has a different look with futuristic details. This is especially evident at the front and back ends where you can see a lot from the EV6, particularly in areas like the grille, headlights, taillights, etc.
Production versions should have similar dimensions to the concept. They will be 122 inches in wheelbase and 194 inches overall lengths. 70 inches high and 81 inches wide.
We expect a slightly different interior design in the final product. While the concept featured a futuristic design, the 2024 Kia EV9 will have a more traditional approach to interior design. We expect to see a standard EV dashboard. It will have a simple design and a large screen that replaces most physical controls. The SUV will have three rows of seating. It should have a wheelbase of 122 inches, so it can easily accommodate 8 people. The space and comfort of the first two rows should be ample, with the third row being functional.
Drivetrain and Battery
The 2024 Kia EV9 will allow for fast charging speeds of up to 350 kW. This means that you can charge your vehicle with a DC unit very quickly. According to some sources, this charging method can charge up to 80% of the battery within 20-30 minutes. 100 miles would be added every 10 mins.
However, officials remain silent about the numbers. We believe that the Korean manufacturer will have a battery capacity that is comparable to American. This would mean that the battery can travel more than 300 miles. We believe that both single-motor and dual-motor drivetrains are possible. According to some sources, the fastest variants can reach 60 in under 5 seconds.
Dimensions
Although the dimensions of the production Kia EV9 are not known, they will likely be similar to the Concept EV9. This means that the length is 194 inches, the width is 80.9 inches, and the height is 70.5 inches. The wheelbase measures 122 inches. It’s a bit shorter than the Telluride, but it’s both longer and wider. The use of an electric skateboard chassis will result in a huge interior.
Although the exact weight of this Kia model is unknown, it will likely be the largest. The Telluride already weighs more than 4,500 lbs in its heaviest form, so the 2024 EV9 will likely be over 5,000 lbs.
Interior and Cargo
The interior of the Kia EV9 will be as revolutionary as its exterior. Kia claimed that the interior of the Concept EV9 resembles a first-class lounge and the photos prove that.
The Concept EV9’s cabin is based on its adaptability to various situations. This includes a rear-facing row of seats, the second row folding into a table, or a more common approach with all faces forward.
Although this level of customization is unlikely to make it into the production EV9 we expect a very adaptable interior. The large panoramic roof and light-colored upholstery create the feeling of space. However, access to the interior will be more traditional than the concept because the coach-style doors have been replaced with traditional ones.
Concept EV9’s ultra-wide 27-inch display will allow for comfort and media functions. It also features a pop-up steering wheel. The dash has very few controls. Material options include vegan leather upholstery and recycled fishnets for flooring. We are less certain about the other materials, although the vegan leather is likely to make it into the production EV9. Although we have seen the performance derivative mentioned at the Nurburgring before (and it was even caught by our spies), the Recaro buckets that it carried are unlikely to make the production SUV, even the GT-badged version.
Although no Kia EV9 cargo space specifications were shared, this vehicle is large enough to not be beaten in this area. The Telluride, which is similar in length, has 21 cubic feet behind the third row and 46 cubic feet if the third row is folded. We expect more from the EV9 with a flat floor and the possibility of a frunk.
2024 Kia EV9: Range
The EV9 will be the first full-sized electric SUV to hit the market by a major automaker. Although the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUV were the first to arrive, there is little doubt that the Kia’s MSRP will be lower than those of luxury automakers. Will it be able to match the impressive range numbers seen in the Model X and iX? It is likely if we are, to be honest.
Kia stated that the EV9 will set new standards in range and that we believe that this means that a lot of people are looking forward to it. While the Kia EV6 has a maximum range limit of 310 miles, we have seen it go as far as 326 miles during our testing. We can expect the EV9 to have at least one variant that exceeds 350 miles due to its larger size. While the EV6 has a 77.6-kilowatt-hour battery, we expect the EV9 will have closer to 100 kWh under its skin.
Concept EV9 claims a range of 300 miles and a charging speed of up 350 kW. It can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 20-30 minutes. Although the EV6 charges at the same speed, it takes 18 minutes for the battery to charge from 10-80%. The EV9 has a larger battery but its exact size is not known.
Concept EV9 features a hood vent duct with a solar panel. However, it is not clear if this will be retained in the production version. The MPGe specifications are still unknown as the EPA ratings are still far off. However, heavy electric SUVs don’t perform well, as shown by the BMW iX, which averages 78 MPGe. With its 102 MPGe combined, the three-row Tesla Model X represents a better benchmark for Kia.
2024 Kia EV9 Release Date and Prices
The 2024 Kia EV9 is expected to arrive sometime in 2019, probably in the first half of next year. It should be considerably cheaper than similar-sized EV SUVs. Base models are expected to cost approximately 50.000 dollars while more expensive versions will likely run around $75.000.
