2024 Genesis G70: Will There Be A New Genesis G70? Genesis, the newest sub-brand under Hyundai’s umbrella, is already the subject of ambitious aspirations. The luxury division made a trip to Detroit not so long ago to unveil a full-size sedan named the G90.
Before the end of the decade, it will roll out a total of six new vehicles. It is interesting to note that the automaker has disclosed that one of them will be a coupe that will rapidly give rise to a model that is specifically tuned to compete with the BMW M4.
The two-door model, which Hyundai is now referring to as the G70 Coupe but will likely finish up looking like a scaled-down version of the Vision G concept car (pictured), which the automaker debuted at the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the summer of last year.
Car and Driver has learnt that the M4-punching derivative would likely shrink and adopt a reworked version of the twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine that already powers a handful of Hyundai and Kia products.
The prototype uses Hyundai’s ubiquitous 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine. It is possible to manipulate the six such that it produces at least as much oomph as the straight-six engine that is fastened below the hood of the M4.
Although competing with BMW’s M division is easier said than done, Hyundai is certain that it has what it takes to succeed in this arena. Especially noteworthy is the fact that the South Korean automaker has chosen Albert Biermann, a veteran of BMW M’s engineering department, to head up the performance-oriented N sub-brand.
Biermann has first-hand understanding of what it is that makes an M-badged BMW so fantastic to drive, and he also understands how to construct a Hyundai that can outperform or at least rival the M4 in terms of driving dynamics and performance.
Hyundai has already provided some information about the upcoming lineup for the Genesis brand in the year 2020. The G70 Coupe will be accompanied by a sedan named the G70, which will compete with the BMW 3 Series.
In addition, there will be a larger sedan dubbed the G80, which will be positioned one step below the top-of-the-line G90. The range will be completed by two crossovers that are most likely going to be built to compete in the same market sector as BMW’s X3 and X5, respectively.
Genesis has given its G70 sedan, which is considered an entry-level luxury vehicle, a makeover for the 2022 model year. The redesign includes improved front and back aesthetics as well as interior adjustments that put the car aesthetically in line with the new G80 sedan and GV80 SUV.
Genesis has also addressed one of our issues about the inside of the G70 for 2022 by adding a new infotainment display that is both bigger and more upscale in appearance. The six-speed manual gearbox that was available as an option for the G70 has been removed.
Even though it shares its foundations with the Kia Stinger, the 2022 Genesis G70 takes luxury to a whole new level. It also demonstrates that the Genesis brand is a genuine rival in the entry-luxury section of the automotive market. In order to compete successfully with top-tier sports sedans like the BMW 3-series and the Mercedes-Benz C-class, a car has to have both a sporty chassis and a luxurious interior.
The G70 excels in each of these areas. The entry-level Genesis sedan not only provides an enjoyable driving experience and an interior that has been tastefully decorated, but it also serves as a model for the brand’s value pricing, coming in at a price that is several thousand dollars less than that of its primary competitors from Germany.
Because of this, it was able to secure a position on our Editors’ Choice list for 2022. In addition, it comes with a basic warranty package of ten years, which is more than twice what the majority of entry-level luxury automobiles give.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The standard G70 is equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 252 horsepower.
All-wheel drive is an available upgrade for the G70 2.0T model. Its engine had a restrained feel while driving around town, and its acceleration times were average. When we got behind the wheel of the twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 variant, with its 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, our hearts literally sprang out of our chests.
During the course of our testing, the rear-wheel-drive 3.3T accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds, which left us awestruck by the wave of torque produced by the engine. No matter how the engine is configured, the G70 boasts ride and handling qualities that are well matched.
The sedan’s suspension was able to iron out any bumps in the road, and it maintained its composure even through intense turning maneuvers. Every G70 that we’ve tested has done an outstanding job of relaying information to the driver’s hands, but the more powerful 3.3T comes with the advantage of adjustable dampers, which let the driver make the ride more firm if they feel it’s essential to do so.
It has accurate and pleasurable steering input, and the amount of effort required to turn the steering wheel may be adjusted by selecting different driving modes.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA identifies the variant of the G70 with rear-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the vehicle that offers the greatest fuel economy. This automobile received ratings of 22 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg overall when combined.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The inside of the G70 provides a feeling of luxury as a result of its use of aesthetically pleasing materials and superb construction quality. The configuration of the controls has been designed with driving aficionados in mind, and they are easy to use. In a similar vein, the upmarket brightwork and decoratively embroidered surfaces of our test vehicle appeased our more wealthy side.
The cabin of the Genesis seems to be more lavish than that of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and the Jaguar XE because Genesis resists the temptation to decorate it with fake carbon fiber trim and a steering wheel with a flat bottom.
While the front seat finds a wonderful mix between comfort and sport, the legroom in the back seat is somewhat cramped, which is a major drawback. We were successful in stowing five carry-on bags in the trunk of the G70 and were able to transport a total of 14 bags when the rear seat was collapsed.
The inside cubby storage has a handy tray located at the front of the center console. This tray is ideal for holding cellphones and other similar small goods. Unfortunately, the door pockets aren’t very big, and the bin in the center console isn’t very well organized.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard on every G70. This device protrudes from the otherwise uncluttered dashboard. The configuration enables the use of desired technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. When it gets closer to the car’s on-sale date, we should get more information on the infotainment features that will be available on the 2022 G70.
