It is hard to tell the difference between the Genesis G80 and the electric version, which was named the Electrified. Although the name of the Genesis’ first ever all-electric Hyundai Genesis may seem a little odd, the electric car is nothing but.
The Genesis G80 looks and drives almost the same, although the battery takes up some of the interior space, storage, and cabin, the driving experience and comfort are virtually identical. The NHTSA has not yet rated the Electrified G80, but the gasoline Genesis G80 has consistently received five-star ratings. We have high hopes for the EV sibling.
The electrified G80 is currently not available across the US. It’s currently only available in 12 states: Arizona, and California. Massachusetts. Nevada. New Jersey. New Hampshire. New York. Utah. Virginia. The Genesis Electrified G80 is a cool, luxury sedan that can be used as a family vehicle. It has a stunning interior and an attractive exterior. The all-new 2024 Genesis Electric G80 boasts plenty of safety and tech that will make you a true aspiring engineer. Here are the facts.
2024 Genesis Electrified G80 Review
While we usually start with the specifications of a car, the Electrified 80 is a vehicle that offers both a ride and a purchase. Smart Park is the driver-assistance technology that makes the car so easy to maneuver around tight spots. Although crash tests for the Electrified G80 have not been completed, the G80 is a 5-star holder so you can rest assured.
Additional safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, and an adaptive cruise controller with a lane-centering feature.
Your purchase is protected by the warranty system. The limited warranty lasts for five years or 60,000 miles. The powertrain warranty doubles to ten years of 100,000 miles. Free maintenance keeps you happy and warm for three years or 36,000 mi.
Battery Pack
The 2024 Genesis Electrified 80’s floorboard houses an 87.2-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, instead of an internal combustion engine. The battery packs provide a range of 282 miles per charge and can be driven economically. The battery can be charged with a 350-kW DC fast charge in just 22 minutes. However, it takes seven hours to fully charge on a Level 2.
The Electrified 80 has two electric motors per axle. This means that an all-wheel drive is a 365-horsepower unit. It can reach 60 mph from 0 in just 4.1 seconds. The result is a fast but comfortable driving experience that makes it a luxury family sedan. It also has a range of 95 MPGe which is within the Mercedes-Benz EQS’s range.
Like its gasoline sibling the Electrified 80, it also has rear-wheel steering. It feels light but is quieter than its gasoline sibling. The electric powertrain feels just as powerful and punchy as the gasoline counterpart. It also costs less than $10,000, especially when it is only available in Prestige. You can expect standard luxury features such as leather interiors with wood trim, and premium audio systems.
Interior
It is a bit chaotic to try and squeeze a battery pack in a car that has been powered by an ICE or internal combustion engine. Headroom and trunk space are slightly reduced. We think this is an admirable sacrifice, considering how it reduces your carbon footprint.
The interior tech is up to par with the rest, featuring a 14.5-inch touchscreen on the dashboard. You will find an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto button on the display, along with a Lexicon audio system.
The Genesis Electrified G80 is America’s most luxurious luxury sedan EV. It has a beautiful exterior, a luxurious interior, and lots of safety and tech features. It looks and feels exactly like its gasoline counterpart, and that’s where the Electrified G80 might score. This EV is no different than any other cool car, so the emphasis remains on its electric powertrain as well as its environment-saving goodness.
Range & Charging
According to the NEDC standard, the maximum range of a charge is approximately 500 km (about 310 miles). Genesis estimates that the Electrified G80 can travel 427km (265 miles) using the Korean EV certification system. It’s still a great car for its size and weight, but it does have some interesting differences.
Range anxiety may not be a problem with the Electrified 80’s 350kW rapid charger capability. This allows you to charge the battery in as little as 22 minutes. It takes about the same time as a quick lunch so it’s quite impressive.
The Electrified 8080 can be charged using a 400/800V multifrequency charging system. This allows you to choose from a variety of charging modes. The drive motor and inverter, for example, can increase the voltage from 400V to 800V depending on their needs. This allows the system to be charged at a more optimal level and provides a stable charge.
You can either use an 800V rapid charger without the need for an additional converter, or you can go with the 400V charger if it suits your needs better. The Vehicle to Load feature of the Electrified 80 allows you to use 3.6 kW of electric power, which is more than what the average household uses. This makes it possible to use your electric appliances outside the vehicle.
Tech Treatments & Sustainable Materials
The Electrified G80, being a Genesis, is quiet and comfortable. Active Noise Control-Road is a feature found first in the GV80 SUV. This system uses good old-fashioned phase cancellation to reduce noise levels. It’s clever, and we’ll likely see it more as time passes.
The Electrified G80 features an Electronic Control Suspension and Road Preview feature. This adaptive suspension system is controlled by the front-facing cam. Genesis went as far as to conceal the charging door in the grille’s upper left corner. This makes the Electrified 80 look more conventional from a distance.
Genesis points out that the Electrified 80’s green credentials extend beyond its drivetrain. Genesis has sourced various natural or recycled materials for its interior such as leather with natural dyes for the seats, console, and rear seat armrest, eco-friendly natural wood trim with recycled wood, and environment-friendly, recycled PET fabrics.
