The 2024 Chevy Equinox Electric EV is a significant one for the bowtie company. The electric Equinox EV is not the same name as its predecessor. This product is a market leader in a growing segment that boasts impressive credentials to appeal to green-minded, value-conscious families large and small.
The all-new Equinox EV features newly-contoured sheet metal based on the Chevy Blazer EV or Silverado EV. It is the highly-anticipated $30,000 EV Tesla has yet to bring to fruition.
Mary Barra, chair and CEO of General Motors, stated that Equinox EV is the leading choice for customers in the future. We can bring to market vehicles at almost every price point and purpose thanks to the flexibility of GM’s Ultrium Platform.
2024 Chevy Equinox Electric EV: What’s new?
Chevy Equinox EV, an all-new hybrid battery-electric crossover, is based on GM’s Ultrium electrical architecture. The Equinox EV can seat five people and has a maximum cargo volume of 57 cubic feet behind the rear seats. The Chevy dealerships will be selling it in the fall of 2023. It is a 2024 model that comes with either a single-motor FWD or a dual-motor variant with all-wheel drive. There are five trim options: 1LT to 2LT, 3LT to 3LT, and 3LT to choose from.
Base Chevy Blazer EV 1LT will reportedly be priced at $30,000, before destination and tax credits. This makes it a great deal to beat comparable EVs such as the VW ID.4 or Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Powertrain, Range, and Charging
The 2024 Chevy Equinox FWD is powered by a single front-mounted, electric motor. It produces 210 horsepower and 242 pounds of torque. The battery provides 250 miles of driving range. A larger battery option increases the driving range to a GM estimated 300 miles.
A dual-motor variant is available across the trim range. It offers an all-wheel grip and 290 horsepower as well as 346 lb. ft. of torque. Chevy claims that the AWD Equinox Electric EV can provide a driving range of up to 280 miles when combined with a larger battery. The lineup includes regenerative braking and one-pedal driving. Equinox EV can also accept up to 150 kW DC fast-charging, which will replenish 70 miles of range in just 10 minutes. To locate charging stations and plot routes, buyers can use the MyChevy app.
Equinox EV3RS eAWD is a range-enhancing model that offers 51 miles of range for juicing up. It has a 19.2 kW Level-2 charger, which can be used to charge up the Equinox EV3RS AWD. The standard 11.5 kWh Level 2 charger adds 34 miles per hour to the range. Scott Bell, Vice President at Chevrolet, stated that the Equinox EV has the range and space to get you there, as well as the comfort and confidence to carry your gear and passengers.
Fuel Economy and Real World MPGe
We don’t anticipate that the EPA will release fuel economy ratings for Equinox EVs until much closer to its launch. We’ll test the Equinox EV’s efficiency and range on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route once we have a chance. Visit the EPA website for more information on the Equinox EV’s fuel economy.
Connectivity and Infotainment
Equinox EVs come with an 11.0-inch digital gauge display and a secondary touchscreen for information. The 1LT model has an 11.0-inch infotainment screen. However, the 2LT and 2RS models have a larger 17.0-inch screen and the 3LT/3RS models have a standard 17.0-inch screen. Chevrolet has not yet released a complete list of optional and standard features, but we expect wireless Apple CarPlay to be standard across the lineup. Uplevel models will get in-dash navigation and an online Wi-Fi hotspot.
