The 2024 Equinox EV will expand Chevrolet’s line of all-electric cars. The Equinox EV shares a nameplate as the compact, gas-powered Equinox. However, it doesn’t share many similarities with the other SUV. The Equinox EV will be above Chevrolet’s smaller offerings, such as the Bolt EV or Bolt EUV. It will also be below the Blazer EV.
The exterior design of the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV will be sweeping and reminiscent of a wagon, rather than a traditional SUV. The SUV’s front ends feature a narrow horizontal light that spans the entire width. The Bolt EV and EUV have distinctive front fascia with an angular trim piece. The SUV’s rear end has a similar large horizontal light connecting the taillights. It also features triangular taillights that curve around the body. Chevy will offer Equinox EV with a sportier roof in a different color.
The interior of the 2024 Equinox EV looks like it combines elements from both the Bolt family as well as the Blazer, to disguise its low price. The SUV has round air vents and a console at the center that is slightly angled toward the driver. There are also physical controls at its bottom. Equinox EV will include a digital instrument cluster, which is connected to the infotainment system and makes it appear like one unit. Chevy claims the SUV can hold up to five people, and it has a total cargo volume of 57 cubic feet.
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Review
Chevrolet has not yet released the official features for the 2024 Equinox Electric Vehicle, but we know some things. As standard equipment, the SUV will include an 11-inch digital instrument cluster as well as an 11-inch infotainment display. Optional 17-inch displays are available. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and USB ports, navigation, satellite radio, and Wi-Fi hotspots are all expected to be available.
Two powertrains will be offered on the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox Electric Vehicle. This SUV will come in a front-wheel drive model that features a single electric motor with 210 horsepower. An extra electric motor is added to the rear wheels on all-wheel-drive models for a maximum of 290 horsepower. The Equinox EV’s range is 250 miles for models that have FWD and the small battery packs, to 300 miles for those with FWD with the large battery pack. The range of AWD models is estimated at 280 miles.
Chevrolet Safety Assist will be standard on every 2024 Equinox EV. It features an automatic emergency brake, automatic high beam assist, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, forward collision warnings, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and reverse automatic emergency braking. The features include a surround-view parking camera, an adaptive cruise controller, a head-up display, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free.
What is Equinox EV?
Chevy’s 2024 Equinox EV will help it take another slice of the highly competitive EV crossover market. The Bolt EUV is already in the Bowtie’s hands, but that vehicle does not use GM’s new Ultium architecture. Ultrium batteries are less energy-dense, contain less cobalt, and have a more flexible packing arrangement. This will hopefully decrease the chance of Bolt EUV’s spontaneous burning problem. The Equinox EV will bow in fall 2023, a few weeks after the sportier Blazer EV.
Every 2024 Chevrolet Equinox Electric EV trim comes standard with a front-wheel drive configuration, including the 1LT and 3RS. This single motor generates 210 horsepower and 242 pounds-feet of torque. This might seem like a lot but we have tested other crossover EVs with similar power specs (like the 201-hp long-term Volkswagen ID.4) and found that there is enough to meet most situations. But what’s the fun of sufficiency? Equinox EV will be available with all-wheel drive. The dual-motor configuration offers an attractive 290 horsepower and 346 lb-ft. This should make the Equinox EV a very sprightly car for people.
What do you think about the Equinox EV’s charging and range?
Chevrolet won’t give any details about the battery capacity but we know that there will be two options. A standard-range pack will be included with the entry-level 1LT. It is expected to provide 250 miles of range on a single charge. The long-range pack is available as an option for the 1LT, 3LT, and 2RS, and promises 300 miles if you use the single-motor powertrain. Only the long-range pack is available with the dual-motor configuration. It drops range to 280 miles.
Equinox EV owners tend to charge their vehicles at home. Equinox EVs almost all have an 11.5-kW charger onboard, which can provide up to 34 miles per hour. A 19.2-kW charger is available for the 3RS AWD. The Equinox 3RS can add 51 miles per hour to your range if it is plugged into a Level 2, which can supply electricity at this rate. The Equinox EV can pull power at speeds up to 150 kW when you are on the road. This is not a great range, but a DC fast-charging station that charges at this rate can add about 70 miles to your vehicle’s range in just 10 minutes.
What’s the Equinox EV interior like?
Chevrolet provided a photo of the 1LT in its press photos. This allowed us to see the interior of Equinox EV’s most affordable model. The cabin’s front looks a lot like the less shiny Blazer EV. The dash features neat turbine-style air vents, a clutter-free steering column, and two digital displays. There is a physical volume knob as well as physical air conditioning controls. Although the cabin appears to be made of hard plastics, the contrast-colored seat stitching and diamond accents in the dashboard trim to make it a little more luxurious than one would expect for a base model.
Upgraded materials can be added to interiors by upgrading to higher trims. For example, the 3LT shown here has a blue-beige brown treatment and leather upholstery. It also features soft-touch door inserts and leather upholstery. The RS models can be marketed as a sport-themed alternative, even though they don’t have any performance upgrades. They feature a blacked-out interior with red accents.
We don’t have much information about the Equinox EV interior space, but compact crossovers usually offer ample room for passengers in both rows. This SUV is expected to be the same. Chevy claims that Equinox EV’s cargo space measures 57 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded. Comparatively, the Toyota RAV4 has a cargo area of 69.8 cubic yards with its rear seats folded.
What tech is the Equinox EV?
The base 1LT includes two 11-inch screens. This screen is located in front of the driver and next to a central touchscreen. The 2LT and 2RS models have a 17.7-inch touchscreen. This is also standard on the 3LT and 3RS models. You can choose from ventilated front seats or heated outboard rear seats. There are also options like a hands-free tailgate, premium Bose audio systems, and ventilated front seats.
The Equinox EV has all the standard features you would expect from a modern crossover. Each model comes with a forward collision warning with an automatic brake, rear parking sensors, and automatic braking as well as a blind spot warning system. The Equinox EV also has a safety alert seat, which buzzes when a safety system activates, saving you from embarrassing glances from other passengers. There are many options available, including adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a digital rearview mirror, and a 360-degree camera.
The inclusion of GM’s Super Cruise system is one of the Equinox EV’s most appealing features. Super Cruise is available on all models, except the 1LT. It allows you to drive hands-free on U.S. highways and in Canada. (Super Cruise coverage will be expanded to more than 400,000 miles by the Equinox EV’s launch). We are happy to include it on mass-market vehicles as it is one of the best-automated driving systems available.
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV Price & Release Date
Chevrolet claims that the 2024 Equinox Electric Vehicle will retail for around $30,000. This would make it an affordable all-electric SUV. The limited-edition 2RS will go on sale in the fall of 2023. The 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV will be competing against the Hyundai Kona Electric and Volkswagen ID.4, Nissan Ariya and Ford Mustang Mach-E when it arrives.
