The 2024 Audi S5 Avant has been tested for many years. The camouflage is now starting to peel off and a prototype with bare-bones has been seen in a parking garage. The wagon has a stylish and sleek appearance, with a single-frame grille that is wide and headlights that are swept back with daytime running lamps. They are connected by a large intake and vertical air curtain.
The S5 Avant is redesigned after the front pillar. It features a dynamic greenhouse, as well as a beltline that sweeps upward. This is repeated by an acute shoulder line that cuts through the simple door handles. We can also see attractive wheels and what looks like a sportier, D-pillar.
The streamlined design is carried out at the rear with a curved bumper and smaller reflectors. A thin, illuminated stripe connects the taillights. There is also a round liftgate. The vehicle could have a large infotainment display that stands alone and a digital instrument panel that looks like a tablet behind a new steering wheel.
Interior photos are scarce, but previous shots revealed that the model would have a digital instrument cluster and a larger infotainment screen. The new steering wheel will also feature a simple gear shifter. Audi has not spoken about the car, but previous S5 Avant prototypes were marked with warning labels. It is therefore expected that the final model will be built using the MLB Evo platform, and feature an electric drivetrain. It is still unclear what the car will look like, but earlier images suggest it may have a V6.
Audi has reportedly chosen a V6 turbocharged, with an electric motor to help. Audi has not yet revealed the combined torque and output, nor the range of the all-electric vehicle. The S5 Avant is expected to debut soon. But don’t expect a US launch. Not as a wagon. The new Audi A6 eTron is a must-know vehicle. Everything else, such as the center console, door cards, upholstery, and trim, has been replaced.
The model has a visible front overhang. This indicates that the original engine position was above and in front of the front axle. It will not likely perform as well as its main competitor in the segment, BMW M340i Touring. This is just a possible opinion. It could be incorrect since the packaging and chassis configuration can make it more efficient.
2024 Audi S5 Refresh
Minor updates have been made to the model from last year. The Black Optic Plus S5 Sportback’s new look package includes additional black elements, such as a spoiler and exhaust tips. The optional Comfort package includes adaptive cruise control. Audi Sport Interior Package will add red stitching to the black interior of the S5 Sportback, as well as RS carbon inlays. Quantum Gray has been replaced with Chronos Gray.
Specs
Audi offers the S5 in coupe, convertible, and four-door hatchback versions called Audi Sportback. A common upgrade for the A5 base model is to go from four cylinders to six. All S5 models are powered by a turbocharged V6 with a 3.0-liter capacity.
With the increased power, comes a wider array of standard features including massaged front seating with layered upholstery as well as a more aggressive appearance. Audi S5 Sportback is closest to the BMW M440i. The four-door Acura TLX Type S, on the other hand, is its main rival. Audi is the winner when it comes down to design. Acura and BMW are both equal in terms of power and performance.
We tested the S5 Sportback which is a four-door hatchback. The turbocharged V6 has a lot more power, but it doesn’t explode immediately. The acceleration is smooth, fast, and satisfying once the car has started moving. Our S5 Sportback was able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. The brakes can handle all of those speeds and provide a relatively fade-free performance when driving at high speeds. They also work smoothly and easily during leisurely rides.
The S5 can also corner. All of our cars are equipped with the optional S Sport Package. The S Sport package combines the best of rear-wheel drive with all-wheel drive traction. The S5 has a dynamic steering system that feels fantastic, regardless of the driving mode you choose.
Interior
The S5 Sportback interior is a combination of high-quality materials and fit-and-finish, as well as an ergonomically-friendly design. The Sportback has a relatively large interior despite its low roofline. Audi S4 offers more interior space for passengers in the rear seats, thanks to its less swoopy design. The S5 Sportback comes with many luxuries, including heated and massaged front seats, a three-zone climate system, a sunroof, and passive entry via a start button. The Sportback’s hatchback design makes it extremely versatile, and its trunk is one of the largest in the segment.
Six carry-on bags can be placed in the back of the car with the rear seat up, and 16 suitcases when the seats are folded. The cabin storage space is very limited for small items such as cell phones and sunglasses. This is typical for this class.
The S5 Sportback is equipped with a standard 10.1-inch touchscreen that replaces the previous 8.3-inch screen. The new system still comes with wireless charging and built-in navigation. It still does not include a rotary control in the center console, which is more intuitive to use than touch input. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice control, and Bluetooth audio and phone.
2024 Audi S5 Tech
Audi’s 10.1″ touchscreen infotainment is characterized by vibrant and clear graphics. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is a digital instrument panel that can be configured to display as much or as little information as desired.
It is easy to navigate. The voice control is good. It doesn’t speak but it has a lot of functionality. Apple CarPlay or Android Auto smartphone integration comes standard. The S5 Sportback offers a wide range of advanced driver safety features, but only the Prestige trim is standard. This is disappointing. All of them worked well in our testing.
Engine
The turbo V-6 engine replaces the 3.0 liter and is more powerful, torquey, and fuel-efficient than the supercharged engines of the same size that were in the previous generation S5. The car accelerates rapidly from a standstill, and it is easy to overtake other drivers on highways.
The last S5 we tested managed a sprint of 4.3 seconds. It was a bit slower than the Mercedes-AMG C43 but still impressive. The eight-speed transmission is very good, but it prefers to start second gear in Comfort mode. This exacerbates turbo lag at the beginning of the engine and makes the S5 sleepy.
Select Drive to change from Comfort mode to Dynamic or Automatic mode. The S5 Sportback will then eagerly leave the line in 1st gear. Transmissions are also reluctant to return to Comfort mode. Switching to Dynamic or automatic usually fixes the problem.
Our test car came with 19-inch performance wheels and the S Sport package. This includes a torque-vector rear differential, adaptive dampers, and a torque vector. Together, these pieces give the S5 Sportback a smooth ride with plenty of cornering ability.
MPG

2024 Audi S5 Avant Price & Release Date
The mid-tier Premium Plus is the best choice, as it offers an extra bit of balance at a reasonable price. Standard features include a 12.3″ digital gauge, blind-spot monitor with rear traffic alert, passive entry and wireless charging pads for smartphones, leather upholstery, and massage front seats.
The only options we’d splurge on are performance-enhancing ones. The Black Optic package, which includes 20-inch alloys, performance summer tires, and red brake calipers as well as adaptive dampers and torque vector rear differential, is enough to improve handling. These packages are just to make your car look cool.
