The new, fourth-generation X3 can replace the model that was introduced in June 2017 within two years. The company will offer a range of hybrid engines in the redesigned model, with more electrification by the end of the second portion of the next decade. This is everything we have learned regarding the 2025 BMW X3 Hybrid so far.
2025 BMW X3 Hybrid Redesign
Images from spy shots suggest it is likely that in 2025 BMW X3 Hybrid will feature an innovative design. The new model is expected to be distinctively updated including slimmer, swept-back headlamps and an option for a taller kidney grille. The DRLs are identical to the refreshed 7th generation five Series (G30). Each headlamp features two L-shaped, vertical light tubes, which are placed close to each other.
Spy media also confirms the flush-fitting door handles on the new 2025 BMW X3 Hybrid. Additionally, they have suggested that the new plug-in hybrid SUV will feature the charging port firmly positioned behind a flap on the left-hand side of its front wall. It’s not known if the newly designed X3 will feature DC fast-charging capabilities, which is an uncommon feature of PHEVs. At present it is there are only three PHEVs that have this capability. Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid, Range Rover Sport, and Range Rover are among the few PHEVs to offer this feature.
On the rear, we anticipate the completely redesigned X3 will feature entirely brand new lamps in combination that make an X-shaped motif which is a design cue influenced by the brand new X5. The overall design appears to be inspired by the 3rd-gen BMW X1, although they will be modified to match the bigger dimension in the X3. The redesigned SUV will exude a more confident feeling of confidence and dynamism.
According to the Auto Express report dated January 5, 2023, the following version of the X3 will be larger than the model we have today. The larger size should provide the SUV with greater visibility on the roads. The X3’s next generation is going through rigorous tests in the Nurburgring. The video above is a camouflaged test mule of the M40i model with gas power We expect it to be a favorite by individual customers within the U.S., being put through its paces at the famous German racetrack. Halogen bulbs that are traditional for the headlights and quad exhaust tailpipes are featured on the test mule. However, the final version will feature modern LED headlights that are full-LED as well as dual exhaust pipes.
Interior & Features
Inside the 2025 BMW X3 Hybrid will likely be a sleeker and cleaner design and features cues derived from the BMW iX. We’re certain that it will have a BMW Curved Display with the BMW Operating System 9 (BMW OS 9)-based ninth-gen BMW iDrive display for the control/operation system along with the operating system. It consists of a 12.3-inch instrument cluster as well as a 14.9-inch display for control, encased in the glass surface, which is angled toward the driver in a typical BMW style The BMW Curved Display will likely become a standard feature of the next generation X3.
Bimmerpost forum participant Ynguldyn believes that the X3 of the future will look more expensive than the model currently in use. It will come with standard comfort Access (passive keys for entry) as well as the ‘IconicGlow exterior, more advanced internal materials ADAS features that are comparable to the X5 along with iDrive 9 will make it an attractive and appealing version than the present X3. It appears that BMW will do everything to the last generation of the X3 that runs on gas to maximize the potential for sales. A more sporty X3 M50i model will come with the M Sport suspension, unique wheels, and M components as normal. An adaptive suspension will be available on this version. The increased size of 2025’s X3 will result in the ability to have a larger boot with a capacity that currently is 28.7 cubic feet (813 liters).
Exterior
It is expected that the 2025 BMW X3 Hybrid will be built on an upgraded version of the CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform. To reduce carbon dioxide emissions in production, BMW Group plans to procure sustainably produced aluminum through Rio Tinto’s hydroelectric facilities in Canada in 2024. Aluminum production can result in a 70% decrease in CO2 emissions as compared to traditional manufacturing. BMW intends to utilize the aluminum solely in the body of its vehicles at its Spartanburg manufacturing facility. This means that the next-generation X3’s hood, as an example could be constructed of sustainable aluminum.
Engine
We can expect the 2025 BMW X3 range to launch with the xDrive20i, which has the 2.0-liter four-cylinder and the 48-volt mild hybrid system, and the xDrive20d which has the same mild hybrid system of 48-volts is expected to be available in a few markets. A higher-end model is the M40i, which has its 3.0-liter 6-cylinder gas engine, and mild-hybrid technology producing approximately 360 hp. There is also the mild hybrid M40d diesel that is available in select markets and with 340 horsepower as per the British report. Of course, these will be cleaner engines that could comply with the stricter Euro 7 emission norms that are expected to be implemented by mid-decade. Auto Express mentions that the 3.0-liter models will be under the umbrella of ‘M Performance.
The leaks have shown that BMW is working on a 2025 BMW X3 plug-in hybrid alongside different variants. Although the currently available X3 plug-in hybrid is available with the xDrive30e AWD version the new model is expected to be available in three variants likely to include one RWD as well as two AWD models. One of them could at least have a pure electric range of 100 kilometers (62 miles) according to the WLTP cycle. The all-electric version that will replace the X3 (2025 BMW iX3) will be a completely different vehicle that rides in the Die Neue Klasse platform that is designed to be the foundation for EVs.
