Honda has wrapped up the initial U.S.-bound electric automobile, the eagerly-awaited Prologue. The Prologue is scheduled to go on sale in 2024. The small crossover-shaped EV is a more ambitious effort at electrification than the previous Clarity Electric or the diminutive European and only Japanese-only Honda Supermini. It’ll also be different from the vehicles with which it’s constructed and the models it will share technology with.
As of Thursday, only brief sketches revealed what we can look forward to of the new electric vehicle Honda developed in partnership in partnership with General Motors. Then we get an inside look as well as details on the size of the vehicle and position on the Honda lineup.
2024 Honda Prologue Electric SUV Review
Honda describes its style as “neo-rugged” with a panoramic roof, 21-inch wheels all-wheel drive, and a fresh front EV style that’s distinctively Honda. It’ll be placed over the CR-V (with the new hybrid version of the CR-V coming out in April) and will be a close match to the Passport in terms of size. With 192 inches of length in total, it’s halfway in between Passport as well as the 3-row Pilot in terms of size.
A large portion of the length comes due to the 121.8-inch wheelbase which is eight inches larger than the 2023 CR-V The Prologue is also about 5 inches longer than the 2023 CR-V which measures 73.5 inches from side to side. It’ll be 64.7 inches in height. This wheelbase is a bit longer and what Honda calls a “generous interior” and “ample space” in the back will meet its passenger’s 39.6 inches of legroom in the back and 41.2 cubic feet of cargo space between the seats behind.
New Design
Although initial renderings revealed the Prologue as blue, images of the white model show the unique launch hue “North Shore Pearl”–a pearly white that is inspired by the California scenery surrounding Lake Tahoe. The interior of the five seats will be a light gray and charcoal shade. Unusual, a brand-new Honda font graces the black glossy panel that runs between the taillights, instead of the usual “H” logo.
On the front are two screens one of which is a driver’s panel measuring 11 inches as well as an 11.3-inch information display. Although we’re not always satisfied with the increase in the number of screens or the lack of physical controls on many new EVs however, the design isn’t too different from the current Honda user interface designs.
Instead of the standard Honda “H” logo on the back, the company’s full name will for the first time appear in a distinct style of a title case. Outside of some interior and exterior design elements, Honda didn’t share more information about its battery or powertrain. The Prologue is likely to have 350 miles of range.
How much will the Prologue cost? How soon will it become available?
Examining other Honda vehicles to determine prices, particularly its forthcoming CR-V Hybrid provides us with some indications about the Passport costs less than $40,000 and the CR-V is less than $30,000. GM has also announced that the Chevy Equinox Electric, an electric SUV will start at around $30,000. The Prologue is expected to be manufactured within North America which could qualify it for tax credits for green vehicles, a lot of which were eliminated in the last year.
The Prologue’s availability is evident and sales are scheduled to start in 2024. Honda has set a goal of an estimated 70,000 units sold over the initial two years. Honda plans to design and develop more EVs using its e: Architecture platform, which is also built in the U.S.–and offer them for sale by 2026. A new range consisting of “affordable EVs” co-developed with GM will be available in 2027.
