This will be an electric minibus. Its name, ID, indicates that many of its components will be shared with the ID.4 Crossover and other members of the ID.4 family. The design is innovative and offers decent performance in battery-powered or electric vehicles.
2024 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Redesign
The exterior design of this minibus makes it stand out. The exterior design is inspired by the Type 2 bus. Many futuristic features highlight the all-electric nature of this model. The US market vehicle is only available with a long wheelbase. The German automaker has followed this concept inside. The interior of the car will also follow this concept design. The images show that the cabin will include some interesting color options.
The 2024 VW Bus will be only available as a paper-based version. Customers can expect to find plenty of room. Normal would be a three-row layout that can seat seven people. The three rows of seats will all have enough room to seat seven people comfortably. The VW MEB chassis also allows a battery pack to fit under the floor. This ensures that cargo and passenger capacity is not compromised. The new vehicle has a load capacity of approximately 40 cubic feet.
Engine
The 2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is available in two different drivetrain configurations. Like the other ID models, the most basic version will have a single RWD electric engine. The engine is capable of 201 horsepower and torque of 229 pound-feet, which seems to be enough for a good performance. The dual-motor version will feature a front-mounted, electric engine that can produce up to 295 horsepower.
Charging
It is the interior that benefits most from the wheelbase extension. This is because the wheelbase can be extended to accommodate a third row, a larger luggage compartment, and a new 85-kilowatt battery with a higher net capacity. The ID begins with the seats. Buzz LWB is available in five-, six, and seven-seat configurations. Standard on the inside of the front seats are adjustable armrests. Outside armrests can be ordered.
Seats with the 12-way power adjustment feature a memory and massage function. The front row in North America will be fitted with a new air conditioner. The standard for the second row is a bench seat that can accommodate three passengers. The backrests are split into 40/60 folds. The bench seat’s position can be moved forward or backward in 7.9 inches 200 mm, either fully or in sections. Optionally, the outer seats can be heated. Second-row seats can have two separate armrests and individual seats. The third row of seating consists of 2 individual seats which can be removed completely when required. In the US, third-row seats are standard.
However, in Europe and Canada, they can be ordered as an option. The ID has a large trunk. Buzz LWB, one of a few electric vehicles, can accommodate paragliding gear, bikes, and boards when the second row of seats is folded. This results in a maximum capacity of 87.2 cubic feet (2.469 liters). The trunk capacity is 47.3 cu. ft. (1,340 liters) in a five-seater configuration. This is 7.7 cu. ft. (219 liters) larger than the wheelbase standard model. The ID can accommodate seven passengers. Buzz’s trunk volume is 10.8 cu ft (305 L) behind third-row seating.
Infotainment Systems
The ID. Buzz LWB features a new infotainment and head-up display powered by ID’s latest version. Software, with a new graphic interface and redesigned menu. The new 12.9-inch screen promises a simpler, more intuitive, and more customizable operating experience. It works in conjunction with a 5.3-inch digital instrument panel controlled by the multifunction steering.
The main display touch sliders, which control functions like volume and temperature, will now also be illuminated. The cabin is equipped with 10-color ambient illumination as standard in Europe or 30-color in America. The panoramic sunroof is also new, with smart glass. It has a 16.1 square foot (1.5 square meter) transparent area. Volkswagen has developed its largest glass roof to date, covering the entire first and second row of seats. It also features electronic tinting.
The ID. Buzz LWB features sliding doors that slide inwards when opened electrically. Both the sliding doors and tailgate open and close electronically (standard in the US). The battery is larger, the rear motor has 282-HP, and there is a 200-kW DC fast charging system. The VW ID’s powertrain is next. Buzz LWB is available in two battery sizes. The 82-kWh pack (77-kWh usable), and the new 91-kWh (85-kWh usable). The automaker did not reveal the range estimate but stated that the new APP550 rear axle drive unit would also be standard in the US-spec ID. Buzz (optional for Europe).
The new drive unit delivers 210 kilowatts and 413-pound feet (560 Newton-meters) of torque to the rear wheels. This increases the top speed from 100 miles per hour (160 kilometers per hour) to 100 mph and reduces 0 to 60 mph time (100 kph). The GTX all-wheel drive version, with 250 kW and 335 hp, will be available later in 2024. Its 0-62 mph speed is 6.4 seconds. VW ID. Buzz LWB also brings a faster DC fast-charging capacity of up to 200 kW.
This will allow the large battery to charge from 10 to 80% in only 25 minutes. Battery reconditioning is possible with a new thermal management system, while an improved heat pump increases efficiency during winter. Volkswagen will begin deliveries in the US of the ID. Buzz LWB will be shipped from the Hanover plant, Germany, in 2024. US pricing, specifications, and range estimates will be announced nearer to the launch.
