Mercedes’ document to the EPA gives us a better idea of its plans for the 2024 model range in the United States. The mid-size E class, whose latest generation was revealed recently in sedan form, is arguably the most notable part. What about the other body types of the E? Mercedes also plans to release the other body styles in 2024.
2024 Mercedes E-Class Wagon Review
The next-generation E wagon is expected to make a return to the United States. Based on what we have seen so far of the sedan, our illustrations show how the wagon might look in standard form. It seems that the W214 sedan longroof’s kin, the E450 All Terrain, will only be available in the U.S.
It’s no surprise, then, that Mercedes will only offer the lifted E450 All-Terrain version in the U.S. AMG E63, the previous wagon-based AMG E63 model offered in the U.S., is also not yet confirmed. We won’t likely hear anything about AMG E-class models until at least the 2025 model.
The coupe and convertible E-class models will be a thing of the past by 2024. The EPA document confirms that the two body types will be renamed CLE-class next year. Mercedes will not rename the two-door E-class models. Instead, it will apply the CLE-class moniker to a new generation of midsize coupes and convertibles, as indicated by the model codes in the document.
Exterior Design
The new 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class design combines many of the traditional elements from previous E-Classes, like their assertiveness and elegance, while adding sleek, modern touches to bring it closer to Mercedes’ EQ model, while also enhancing its aerodynamic performance. The 2024 E-Class has a drag coefficient of 0.23 which improves fuel economy as well as performance.
The new E-Class, which is a sixth-generation model, has a longer wheelbase than the previous one (116.6 vs. 115.7 inches). This gives the occupants – and long-distance travelers – more space inside the vehicle. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class’s stretched wheelbase provides a 0.2-inch improvement in front headroom and a rise of 0.6 inches in rear legroom. It also increases rear knee room by 0.4 inches, providing greater comfort for all passengers.
Generous Trunk Space
The E-Class isn’t known for its generous luggage space, but this will soon change. The German automaker increased the trunk size from 13.1 cubic feet to an impressive 19 cubic feet. Comparing this to the trunk space of the 2023 BMW 5 Series, it offers 18.7 cubic feet. This should make the new E-Class more appealing to consumers who are looking for additional cargo space and convenience.
Eco-Friendly Touches
The 2024 E-Class is one of many vehicles that are driving the green transition in the world by focusing more on recycling and sustainable material. It has also joined the effort to put the environment and the citizens at the forefront of any production activity. The 2024 E-Class is the first Mercedes to use certified recycled materials in its seat foam.
MBUX Superscreen
The MBUX Superscreen is one of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class’s best features. The MBUX superscreen is available as an option and consists of 3 different displays: a standalone 12.3″ instrument cluster, a 14.5″ diagonal infotainment display, as well as 12.3″ for the front passenger. These screens combine to offer occupants – especially those in the front – a seamless experience that connects them seamlessly with their digital life.
Music-Reactive Ambient Light
Another cool feature of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2024 that will make life even better on board this luxury sedan. Mercedes’ ambient light syncs to the music played to create the mood desired by the occupants. When you listen to upbeat music at a fast-paced tempo while driving, the system creates a fun atmosphere by matching the music’s pulsating patterns with your music choice.
In contrast, soft pulses are used to complement soothing sounds and create a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Mercedes claims that the ambient light also provides visual warnings and information from the parking assistance system when crossing cross-traffic intersections.
Burmester Audio System
The driving experience is enhanced by a high-quality audio system. Mercedes is aware of this and offers the 2024 E-Class a 730-watt Burmester surround sound system, with 17 speakers, to give audiophiles a richer, clearer sound. The system uses sound-resonating transmitters to allow occupants to feel the bass of music. Cool, right?
A Wide Range Of Contemporary And Cutting Edge Applications
Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the pinnacle of luxury midsize vehicles. It is fitting that it emphasizes its position as a midsize luxury sedan with a variety of modern features and apps which can be installed without having to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The apps include Angry Birds, TikTok, and Zoom.
They also have a dashboard-mounted selfie camera, which is perfect for video conferencing. The new E-Class includes a web browser (Vivaldi Browser) as well as ZYNC. This entertainment portal provides Mercedes Superscreen compatible streaming video services with over 30 services.
Upgraded Safety System
Driver assistance systems today are excellent. Mercedes is never satisfied with anything less than the best. It improved its safety system list for a greater sense of security. Attention Assist is one of the most important additions. It monitors the driver’s eye movements to make sure they are focused on driving. The system warns the driver if their eyes are off the road for an extended period. Mercedes offers other important technologies in the new E-Class, such as automatic emergency braking and lane-change assistance.
Optional Rear Steering System
The E-Class may not be the largest car, but its new rear-steering system is sure to come in handy. This feature is included in the Technology package and gives the driver the ability to maneuver the vehicle through city streets. It also makes it easier to park the car.
At speeds under 37 mph, the system can rotate the E-Class front and rear wheels up to 4.5° in the opposite direction. This reduces the turning circle of the vehicle. The rear wheels of the sedan can rotate up to 2.5 degrees at higher speeds. This allows for maximum maneuverability and performance. The Technology package also includes an air suspension system with adaptive dampers.
Engine
According to this document, the CLE class is expected to come with three powertrain options. Benz-badged CLEs are likely to be called CLE300, which indicates that they will use the C300 four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and CLE450, which is a clear indication that it’ll have the 375 horsepower six-cylinder system of the E450. AMG has also listed a CLE53 that carries the same 429-hp straight-six powertrain as today’s E53. However, it may have a few extra horses.
Future
Mercedes told us that it was not able to provide information on future products. It remains to be determined if the information Mercedes provided to the EPA is accurate. It’s possible that an unexpected situation (such as a chip shortage) could throw a wrench into Mercedes’s plans. We bet that Mercedes wouldn’t have provided such detailed information about its 2024 model range unless everything was firmly in place.
2024 Mercedes E-Class Wagon Price & Release Date
Prices, specifications, and features will be announced late in the year before the E350 lands in North America. Expect the 2024 E 350, which comes with an all-wheel-drive and a mild hybrid powertrain as standard, to cost more than $60,000. The E 450 is expected to begin at about $70,000. AMG and wagon versions will follow.
