The Chevrolet Impala gets its name from an antelope native to Africa, a slender and delicate-looking wild herbivore. In contrast, Chevy’s seventh-generation Impala sedan wasn’t delicate in its design – which was like the Caprice – but it was still a sleek thing by today’s standards.
That rounded front end, spacious interior, and long rear trunk are iconic, and it’s also the kind of shape we probably won’t see again although the Impala nameplate ran until around 2020. In 2023 a big, comfortable four-door sports sedan with a V8 engine might be a dying breed though it’s still a recipe popular among gearheads, and the Impala name could get resurrected as an awesome 4-door muscle car to take on the Dodge Charger.
2024 Chevrolet Impala SS Review
Chevy could offer the 2024 Impala SS as a stretched 4-door version of the Camaro or resurrect the last Impala’s platform but with this new design. The new Impala SS in the renders has most of the front end from the last (10th) generation Impala with some additions such as the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat-inspired double hood scoops and a slightly more aggressive bumper setup than the outgoing car, along with a subtle splitter.
So far so good, and the long silhouette bestows practicality on the Impala, which gets coated in dark green paint to show off its newly-found outgoing nature and blacked-out rear windows. Up back, the flat trunk lid and the LED lights along with the chunky bumper and twin exhaust tips create a muscular vibe that looks more like a muscle car than ever before.
Squint and you can imagine a Tesla Model S or BMW 5-Series from the rear, such is the restrained design of the Impala SS render, but it stays true to the nameplate’s sleeper-style ethos while injecting a little muscle-car-style DNA into the proceedings.
Engine
If Chevy brought back an Impala SS it would come with a sports-tuned suspension and upgraded brakes, but the engine in this would have to be the Chevy LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 650 hp and 650 lb-ft, twinned with a 10-speed automatic for effortless cruising.
Chevrolet retired the Impala name in 2020 and has no plans to bring it back for the foreseeable future – not surprising seeing as the current trend is for sedans to disappear so automakers can concentrate on SUVs and crossovers which are far more popular and profitable.
Since GM isn’t equipped with a strong and often two-wheel drivetrain, this Impala SS V8 will probably be considered to be a futuristic, electrified V8. But, it permits us to go back to the basic principles of the C8 Corvette’s 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine will be selected over the highly efficient 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 325 horsepower or 280 pounds-feet of torque. It’s capable of producing the equivalent of 470 pounds-feet of torque, and 495 horsepower when using the best system. The Tremec 8-speed gearbox that has clutches could transmit power to Re-stop wheels.
Mary Barra, the CEO of General Motors, adds the complete digital capabilities that are available in the People Edition and will eventually be capable of powering the whole 2024 Chevy Impala SS large-sized sedan. Based on the way it’s configured it could be able to compete with the Tesla Design S could compete with the 380 or go the full way (610 kilometers, as stated in the previous paragraph). It would require two generators that would have a capacity of 100 kWh.
