What’s new?
In 2018, the 2024 VW Atlas was produced for the first time. Its three-row SUV design, the Atlas 2024, is well-known. It can accommodate seven people. Atlas 2024 is more competitive than other similar products in its class due to technological advances.

Engine and Performance
The 2024 VW Atlas is available in five trims: SEL with Technology (with Technology), SE with Technology (with Technology), and SEL R–Line Black (with Technology). The 2024 Atlas’s body is strong and features large entrances as well as exits. This highlights the Atlas’s powerful and modern body. Atlas is a large ship.
Although the cabin design is simple, it will still look elegant. While driving your car, you can see all details about it in high-resolution. These features are simple to use.
Atlas 2024 offers 4MOTION with active controls and custom off-road or snow modes. Snow mode causes the engine’s temperature to rise first. This keeps the RPM of the car low. Atlas won’t use too much energy. Atlas offers all-wheel drive to make driving more enjoyable.
The VW Atlas 2024 has a large exterior design. All Atlas trims include a 10.25-inch digital cockpit cluster instrument cluster, which includes the SE. The VW Atlas 2024 is sturdy and can withstand a lot of loads. It can tow up to 5,000 pounds with its six-cylinder engine. It can tow up to 2,000 pounds with the four-cylinder engine.
Volkswagen is focusing more on the remaining models of its US lineup, especially the crossovers since there’s no Beetle or standard Golf. With more than 88,000 sales in 2022, the Tiguan was VW’s most popular vehicle in America. The compact Taos crossover was next, and it reached more than 59,000 American driveways in 2017, Wards Intelligence data shows.
Wolfsburg wants to see more traffic to its larger crossovers, the three-row Atlas Cross Sport and the two-row Atlas Cross Sport, which are both manufactured in Chattanooga (Tennessee). In 2022, 82,000 units were sold combined for both models. The 2024 model year will see a major refresh of these upsized models. But the most significant development is underneath the hood.
You could have an Atlas with a four-cylinder TSI turbocharged engine or a workhorse V6 engine last year. The only choice this year is a 2.0-liter turbo TSI four-cylinder engine. The new engine can produce up to 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. This engine produces approximately the same power as the VR6 last year (276 hp and 266 lb-ft), but it is far more powerful than the 2.0-liter unit (235 horsepower, 258 lb-ft).
New Design
VW is keeping some details off the new Atlas crossovers. However, the automaker claims that the new powerplant will offer better acceleration and improve fuel economy. There are a few things that haven’t changed with the refresh: a 5000-pound maximum weight towing capacity, an 8-speed automatic transmission, standard front-wheel drive, and 4Motion all-wheel drives for all trims.
The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport don’t have any significant changes, but the updated versions that were unveiled today at the Chicago Auto Show reflect many small changes throughout the models.
The exterior of the Atlas, particularly the front, has been given a fresh design. VW has also highlighted unique front fascias on the Atlas Cross Sport and two-row Atlas Cross Sport. Both models now feature new integrated air intakes as well as an updated light signature that includes adaptive front-lighting technology.
Interior
The daytime running lights are now connected to the light bar and illuminated VW logo, except for the base trim. The 2024 Atlas family models have a new light-up VW logo on the rear (not on the base trim), and a larger spoiler. Further changes are made to the Atlas Cross Sport’s front, including a gloss-black grille detail and a similar colored “X” design element on its lower fascia. Also, there is a new rear diffuser.
The interior of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport and Atlas Cross Sport has undergone minor to medium changes. VW has added a leatherette-trimmed, soft-touch dashboard and center console with storage space underneath, ambient lighting, and quilted leather seats in the top-of-the-line trims. VW also added a heated steering column with shift paddles and ventilated seats to the standard equipment column. These features were previously available only to those who purchased the SEL trim level or higher.
The 2024 Atlas Cross Sport SUVs and the Atlas Cross Sport SUVs have a 12-inch standard infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch screen in front of drivers for Digital Cockpit Pro. The largest infotainment display in an Atlas was 8 inches diagonally last year. Standard features include wireless smartphone charging, at least six USB C ports, or, optionally, eight.
All models of the 2024 Atlas Cross Sport and Atlas Cross Sport come with VW’s Intelligent Quotations. Drive driver-assistance technology. We’re used to automakers referring to their driver-assistance technology in terms of the SAE’s five levels of self-driving, but VW refers to IQ. Drivers are described as having “hands-on semi-automatic capability,” meaning that the system can maintain you in the middle of your lane while scanning for potential obstacles.
Features
The standard features include a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and a height-adjustable seat. The voice-activated automatic climate control system makes it a great Super Bowl commercial but has been a bit finicky in other vehicles that have similar functionality.
The outgoing models could be ordered with either a turbo four or a 235-hp 3.6 liter V-6. However, the Atlas 2024 and Atlas Cross Sport is available with a single engine: a turbocharged 269-hp turbocharged four. All trims have all-wheel drive, while front-wheel drive remains standard.
Although the EPA has not yet weighed in on the turbo four’s fuel efficiency, VW claims it should be better than the previous model. The Atlas’s towing capacity remains the same, and it can pull up to 5500 pounds.
